I have been a pet lover all my life.
I am a member of the Tweed Valley wildlife carers, was a weekly volunteer at the local pound with Friends of the pound.
This is temporarily closed during renovations and changes.
My duties with the Tweed valley wildlife carers was to rescue, collect and transport animals and birds.
Depending on the situation they may have been taken to a carer or the local vet hospital.
Whilst volunteering at the pound I would clean the animal cages, walk the dogs and comfort those not allowed to be walked.
My own dogs are both rescues from the pound.
Pepper is now 8 years old, came to me when he was 1. Joey chose me, he was surrendered to the pound and from the first day would only want me to walk him.
It was love at first look.
He is now 14 years old and we have to lift him in and out of the car when we take them for walks, very slow walks.
We live in a private laneway with only 4 other neighbours, we have 1.25 acres of land - half of this is fenced and secure. I am happy to look after small, medium or large dogs, young and old.
I do have a special part in my heart for older dogs.
I am fit and healthy, my husband and I do triathlons.
Val did a great job looking after our two cats over Christmas. When we came home they seemed happy and settled. Val provided us with photo updates every day and took time to sit and give them attention. Thanks, Val!
My specific skill set is a love for all animals, I am vegetarian. Most of my friends say I have some sort of connection with all animals. My visiting vet is very close and is totally happy to assist me if the need arises. If I find a lost dog, he is my first call. If we can find the owner, it always is better to avoid the stress they feel when taken to the pound. If you would like a reference from the pound co-ordinater please let me know.
