About Caroline
Hi! My name is Caroline and I am from Washington, D.C. I graduated from University last May and recently moved to Australia.
I am currently working as a full-time au pair living with my host family in the Eastern Suburbs and looking after their 3 young girls. As an au pair, I am extremely attentive to cars, animals, and other potential dangers when walking my kids to and from school. I am always a phone call away from my host parents when I am looking after their children. The physical and emotional safety of the girls is my number one priority and taking care of your pets will be no different.
I grew up around lot's of golden retrievers (and other dog and cat breeds too)! I love all animals but am most comfortable with bigger, more active dog breeds. My family is now on our second golden retriever and our 2 sweet girls could not be more different from one another. Harper our first dog, adored people but displayed a lot of leash aggression around dogs she didn't know. Millie, our current dog, also loves people but wants to befriend any and all dogs she passes. Having lots of experience walking both of them, I know how drastically different dog personalities can be. With Harper I got very used to changing course on my walks to avoid other dogs and only letting her interact with dogs she knew and owners I trusted. Communicating with other dog owners while out on a walk is very important to me because every dog is different and sometimes interactions can be unpredictable.
Regular exercise, mentally stimulating play/interaction, affection, attentive care, and proper training are very important aspects of having a pet. I love going on long walks (typically 1hr+) by the ocean or in the neighborhood, playing fetch in nearby parks, and genuinely enjoy looking after pets. I am also very passionate about cleaning up after dogs and leaving no trace. During a home visit, you can expect that I will feed and medicate your pet if necessary (I only have experience with oral medications), refill their water, let them out to use the bathroom/clean their litter box, give them lots of cuddles, and play or walk them till they are tired out.
Since coming to Australia, I really miss my dog Millie back home. She is our family's 2-year-old golden retriever who is full of energy, loves to play, and can be a little naughty too. She brings me so much joy and I really miss having her around. I have lots of free time mid-day during the week (10am-2pm) and some weeekends too when I am not caring for my au pair kids, so I would love to spend time with your furry friends!
