About Sarah
My name is Sarah age 33 from Ireland, I've lived in Australia for 3 + years now. I currently live in the Randwick area in a secure building as pet safety is my first priority. I've had experience pet sitting for some friends dogs while they've been away on holidays so I know my set up is suitable for overnight. I love to walk so when minding your pet I'll be sure to take him or her out regularly based on your preference. I don't work weekends so dogs will be not be left alone for long periods of time. My hobbies include running, beach walks and I love a sunrise/ sunset. If you have any questions or queries please be sure to drop me a message and I would happy to answer.
I’m motivated to be a pet sitter because I genuinely enjoy caring for animals and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved when their owners are away. Spending time with pets doesn’t feel like a job to me—it’s something I find naturally rewarding. I understand how important pets are to their families, and I take that responsibility seriously by giving them attention, routine, and companionship.
I’m also drawn to the trust involved in pet sitting. Being relied on to care for someone’s pet and home encourages me to be dependable, patient, and attentive to detail. Every animal has its own personality and needs, and I enjoy adapting to that, whether it’s an energetic dog needing long walks or a shy cat that prefers quiet company.
In my previous care, pets follow a structured yet flexible daily routine designed to keep them comfortable, engaged, and well cared for. Each day typically begins with a morning walk (usually 20–30 minutes, depending on the pet’s energy level and needs), followed by breakfast according to the owner’s specified feeding schedule. Fresh water is always available and monitored throughout the day.
I generally provide 2–3 walks per day for dogs, including a longer walk or active play session.
Pets are rarely left alone for extended periods. On weekends I’m usually home most of the day. If I do need to step out, I make sure pets are settled, comfortable, and have everything they need before I leave.
Feeding is handled strictly according to the owner’s instructions, including portion sizes, timing, and any dietary restrictions or medications. I’m comfortable administering basic medications if needed and will always follow detailed care instructions carefully.
Safety is a top priority in my home. My apartment is clean, secure, and pet-friendly, with no access to harmful substances or unsafe areas. Windows and balconies are secured, and I supervise pets closely to prevent accidents. I also introduce new environments gradually to help pets feel at ease.
In case of emergencies, I stay calm and act quickly. I keep contact information for the owner readily available, and I’m prepared to take pets to the nearest veterinary clinic if needed. I always communicate promptly with owners if any concerns arise.
Overall, a typical day in my care includes a balance of exercise, rest, playtime, and attention, ensuring each pet feels safe, happy, and well looked after—just like they would at home.
I have hands-on experience caring for a range of dogs of different breeds, ages, and temperaments. Over the years, I’ve regularly looked after Labrador Retrievers (both young and senior), as well as spent time around more energetic and high-maintenance breeds, including working and shepherd-type dogs. This has given me a good understanding of how behaviour, energy levels, and care needs can vary significantly between breeds and individual dogs.
For example, younger dogs tend to require more structured exercise, stimulation, and consistency, whereas older dogs need a calmer approach, with more attention to comfort, mobility, and routine. I’ve also experienced the differences between more relaxed, food-driven breeds like Labradors, and more alert or reactive dogs that require firmer boundaries and closer supervision, particularly in public or unfamiliar environments.
Alongside general care, I’ve done dog sitting for multiple dogs at once, managing feeding schedules, walks, and ensuring each dog’s individual needs are met. This includes maintaining routine, recognising signs of stress or discomfort, and adapting accordingly.
One situation that stands out was while I was dog sitting three dogs of different ages and temperaments. During a walk, one of the younger dogs became overexcited and reactive when another dog approached, which then unsettled one of the older dogs. I stayed calm, created space by moving off the path, and used firm but controlled handling to regain the younger dog’s focus. At the same time, I reassured the older dog and kept them close to maintain a sense of security. By managing the situation calmly and confidently, I was able to prevent escalation and continue the walk safely.
Experiences like this have helped me develop patience, awareness, and the ability to handle dogs confidently in a range of situations.
