Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with both dogs and cats and have continued caring for animals throughout my adult life. I’ve had dogs with very different personalities, ages, and needs, including several rescues who came from difficult situations and were initially fearful, shut down, or withdrawn. With patience, consistency, and a lot of understanding, I was able to help them become confident, happy companions.

I genuinely enjoy getting to know an animal’s individual personality. Some want a long walk and lots of play, some are happiest curled up beside you, and some need a little time before they decide you’re trustworthy. I’m happy to meet them where they are rather than expecting every pet to behave the same way.

My approach to caring for your pets:

• Walks: I’ll follow your pet’s normal routine and adjust walks to their age, energy, health, and comfort level. This might mean a short relaxed walk for a senior dog, a longer outing for an active dog, or simply some outdoor time and sniffing for a dog who doesn’t need a big adventure.

• Visits: I don’t believe in simply letting a dog out and immediately leaving. During visits I’ll provide companionship, toilet breaks, fresh water, meals, treats, play, cuddles, and whatever else is part of their normal routine. I’m happy to spend additional time with pets who need more company or reassurance.

• Behavior and temperament: I’m comfortable with shy, anxious, elderly, energetic, quirky, or behaviorally challenging pets. I’ll follow your instructions carefully regarding introductions, other animals, leashes, gates, doors, food, treats, and anything else that helps your pet feel safe.

• Medications and special care: I’m comfortable administering oral and injectable medications and following detailed care instructions. My background as a pediatrician has made me particularly comfortable with careful dosing, schedules, observation, and recognizing when something seems different from your pet’s normal behavior.

• Cats, too! I grew up with cats and have experience caring for them in their homes. I’m happy to provide feeding, litter care, play, companionship, medication, and plenty of respect for the fact that some cats prefer affection on their own terms.

I also understand that when you leave your pet with someone, you’re trusting them with more than an animal. You’re trusting them with your home and your peace of mind.

While house sitting, I’ll treat your home respectfully and keep it secure. I’ll follow your instructions for locking doors and windows, gates, alarms, lights, blinds, rubbish bins, mail and packages, plants, and anything else that helps maintain your normal routine. I’ll make sure everything is secured whenever I leave and will let you know promptly if I notice anything unusual with your home or pets.

Before a stay, I like to learn the little details that make your pet feel at home: their feeding schedule, favorite walks, sleeping arrangements, medications, quirks, fears, favorite toys, and the things that make them happiest.

My goal is simple: your pets should feel safe, loved, and comfortable in their own home, and you should be able to enjoy your time away knowing they’re in good hands. 🐾
