Hi I'm Sophie!
I love animals and have lots of experience with dogs, birds, chooks, horses, cows and fish - some pets I have had throughout my life and some animals I have taken care of on my cousins farm. I offer pet boarding in our home, dog walking and home visits to feed/walk/check on your pet.
We are a family with mum, dad, two daughters (one who wants to be a vet when older) who are very active and love the outdoors. We also have our own furbaby - a beautiful 3 year old female Bullmastiff cross, a medium sized dog who is very friendly, placid, obedient and fun! She loves playing fetch, going for lots of walks, great with children and other dogs. Your pet will need to be family friendly, good with kids and other dogs as well as fully vaccinated & tick/flea treated to keep our dog and all animal visitors healthy. I take our dog on daily walks and as a family often go to the off-leash enclosed parks for dogs in our area, as well as the dog beach at the Spit.
We have a large fully fenced backyard with lots of shade from the trees and undercover patio. Our fence is a Colorbond fence so no gaps for any Houdini's and our gate is always shut with two locks.
We recommend a meet and greet first to ensure your pet is safely secured and feels comfortable with us.
Sophie & her family were a joy to deal with. They looked after our boy JJ as if he were their own. Will definitely use again!
I will start with the positives of my dog Bella’s stay with Sophie. Sophie’s backyard is secure, spacious, clean and has many shaded areas. Upon meeting, Sophie explained that Bella would be outside during the day and put in the laundry at night. Sophie was friendly and sent regular texts and photos and communicated extremely well. She was flexible with pick up and drop off times and appeared friendly and at ease with Bella.
Unfortunately, during her stay Bella was put in a very unsafe situation and an easily preventable incident occurred. She was locked in the small, fenced pool area to separate her from other dogs (as the other dogs were being too rough) and she subsequently fell in and could not get out. I am not sure how long Bella was in the pool before she was noticed but it is testament to Sophie’s watchfulness that Bella was noticed and pulled out of the pool. Sophie called to inform us of the accident straight away but did not seem to appreciate the seriousness and I took Bella to the vet to treat several injuries.
I appreciate that this accident was unintentional and the risks of the pool were not clear to Sophie at the time. However, it should be common knowledge for a pet sitter that leaving a dog unsupervised in a pool area is extremely unsafe (especially for guest dogs that may have never seen a pool before). Since the incident occurred Sophie has been apologetic and assured me that pets will no longer be locked unsupervised in the pool area. Therefore, I believe this is a one-off incident that will not occur again.
Nevertheless, for me the situation was unacceptable and the stress and injury to Bella and the resulting vet fees that I have had to pay have made this sitting experience stressful and upsetting and this is reflected in my star rating.
While growing up, my family and I would take care of our cousin's farm while they went on holidays, so I also have experience with cattle, horses, chickens, sheep and goats.
