About Karen

Hello there, kia ora, and welcome to my Pawshake profile! I moved over from New Zealand last April with hopes of bringing my beloved Pipi, a 12-year-old Hungarian Vizsla, over for her final chapter. Unfortunately, life had other plans and my sweet girl passed away. She had lived a very full and colourful life, and we shared many adventures together, so her life is truly something to celebrate. After losing Pipi, I started looking after animals here in Melbourne. I think it’s safe to say I’ve met just about as many new animal friends as I have human ones! It has been healing in so many ways, and I’ve loved connecting with other pet owners. I have experience with a wide range of dogs and cats, and also grew up with rabbits and guinea pigs. I’ve trained puppies, older dogs and rescue dogs, and I’m comfortable walking large dogs. I’m happy to reinforce existing training, practise new tricks and keep up with familiar routines, as well as administer oral medication when needed. My only limitation is highly reactive or aggressive dogs, as this is something I haven’t had experience with. Pipi and I were very active together and loved hikes, runs, swims and all sorts of outdoor adventures. As she got older, we adjusted our routines to suit her changing needs. This taught me how important it is to consider each animal individually, including their age, breed, personality and energy levels. Pipi also had a natural tendency towards anxiety, and I learnt how important routine, exercise, a healthy diet and paying attention to her needs were in helping her feel happy and confident. I know how hard it can be to give your pet the love and attention they deserve while juggling a busy life. I’m happy to provide company, play and exercise where appropriate, while respecting when an animal needs quiet time and space. I’m also happy to send owners updates and photos, because I know how reassuring it is to know your pet is happy and well cared for. Some things to know : Currently I am open to walking/ running dogs and house visits and homestays within the areas of Hepburn Springs , Woodend ,Denver, Malmsbury, Daylesford , Glenlyon and Kyneton. I currently live on a beautiful property in Denver with a fully fenced area for home stays. However I used to live in Melbourne and can also offer overnight pet sitting at your house if the dates are suitable in the city. With dog walking I will complete a 1/2 hour walk within the area but I naturally extend the timing if the dog requires a longer walk . If your dog needs a bit more than a walk, and only if we have previously discussed if this is suitable, I can complete a light jog/run rather than walking, to travel more distance and give your dog a more intense work out. If your pet has a preference that we can reach on foot I would love to take them there! I offer sending photos of our time together .Toys, leash, toilet bags, treats, must all be supplied by the owner. I believe this is what your pet will prefer for our time together- all the familar things! For home visits, I will happily spend some time with your pet I'll make sure to feed and top up water bowls. I can brush or play with your pet, take for a walk or just show some love and affection. We could even practice that new trick you've been working on or any other specific training. While I'm there you're more than welcome to leave a message for me to bring in mail, water plants, or any small tasks to help your day run a bit smoother - the more time you can spend with your pet when you get home the better! I can also administer medication with food if needed. Any questions I have , I won't hesitate to be in contact but can also share any good news too. Maybe your pet did something amazing that day and I'd love for you to know :)
