Hi there! I’m Alex - a lifelong animal lover, dog mum, and someone who takes caring for your pets very seriously. I’m 30 and live with my partner, and our two dogs (a rescue Staffy/Kelpie mix and a Doberman - Gordito and Bazooka). I’ve lived with animals my whole life, including dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, goats and horses. A few things I love: doggy snuggles, rock climbing, the gym, running, and brunch dates.

Before working in animal rescue, I completed my Certificate II in Animal Studies and spent a year working as an assistant vet nurse.

Since May 2023, I’ve been part of the dog team at AWL Coombabah - first as a volunteer for two years, and now as a paid staff member for the last six months. I absolutely love it. I get to work hands-on with an even bigger variety of dogs every week, including those with more complex behavioural needs.

My daily work includes walking, enrichment, feeding, cleaning, medication handling, behaviour observation, and supporting boisterous, reactive, anxious, untrained or shut-down dogs. After almost two and a half years working closely with rescue dogs, I’ve become highly attuned to canine behaviour and body language. I’m calm, confident and patient with every dog - from tiny 8-week-old puppies to 70kg Neo Mastiffs.

I also have hands-on experience with:

• senior dogs

• mobility-impaired pets

• incontinent pets

• diabetic pets

• human/dog/vehicle-reactive dogs

• pets requiring medication (tablets, injections, creams)

Because I love behaviour work so much, I’m now studying my Certificate IV in Dog Behaviour & Training (currently 6 months into my studies!). This allows me to offer basic dog training as either a full service or a simple add-on to your existing booking. These sessions can include:

• loose leash walking

• basic obedience

• toilet training

• confidence building

• foundational reactivity work (early-stage skills only)

I work at AWL several days a week and have good availability outside of my roster - plus some availability on my working days depending on the schedule.

🐾 Currently studying Cert IV in Dog Behaviour & Training
