About Jo
Animals have been part of my life for many years, including two much-loved long-term cats, and I genuinely miss having a four-legged companion around the house.
I also have around eight months of house and pet-sitting experience, both in England and Australia, during which I cared for 19 dogs and eight cats in their own homes. I loved the experience and the companionship that came with it, so opening my own home to visiting dogs feels like a lovely way to have animals back in my life.
I work predominantly from home and have two older teenage boys who also love dogs, so there is usually someone around for much of the day. Between the three of us, there is no shortage of company, pats and attention!
I am based in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Kensington Oval and close to Kensington Gardens, so there are excellent options for both everyday walks and longer adventures. I would normally take your dog for two walks each day, tailored to their usual routine and energy levels.
For more energetic dogs who need a longer stretch, I’m also happy to take them in the car to larger parks and walking areas, provided they are comfortable travelling.
Dogs are very welcome inside my home and can bring their own bed, toys and familiar comforts.
If your dog is accustomed to sleeping near their human, I am also happy for their bed to be in my bedroom.
I only accept dogs from one household at a time, so your dog won’t suddenly find themselves sharing their stay with unfamiliar animals. I currently have no pets of my own.
My garden is not fully enclosed, so dogs are always supervised when outside for toilet breaks rather than being left outdoors unattended.
There are plenty of windows around the house for those dogs who enjoy watching the world go by.
I am happy to administer oral or straightforward medication and, most importantly, I want to understand your dog before they stay.
We can talk beforehand about their personality, routine, food, walks, sleeping arrangements and all those little things that help them feel at home. You are welcome to visit beforehand.
My home is best suited to well-trained, fully house-trained small to medium-sized dogs who are comfortable being left for short periods when necessary.
As this is my family home, I’m unable to accommodate dogs with significant separation anxiety, persistent barking or destructive behaviours such as chewing furniture or belongings.
Bring their favourite toys, their bed and their personality. We’ll provide the company. 🐾
