About Liz
Hi, I’m Liz, a retired teacher who has been “owned by” two German Shorthaired Pointers. My partner and I don’t currently have our own dog but miss their company.
We would welcome the opportunity to enjoy time with your well-socialised, good-natured, cuddle-loving fur-babies - and maybe even to spoil them a little bit rotten!
We recommend you arrange a time to visit us with your dog beforehand for a meet-and-greet.
A comfortable environment
-- Your dog's comfort and safety are our priority.
-- It's a quiet household with only two, dog-loving and dog-experienced adults. (No other pets - or noisy kids 😏 - to bother them, and we don't have many visitors.)
-- We prefer to host only one dog at a time, as we like to give your four-legged friend individual attention. (If you have two bonded and well-behaved dogs, feel free to enquire and we'll happily consider it, but we can't guarantee to accept bookings for more than one.)
-- We are both home a lot, and my partner works mainly at home, so we have flexibility to give your dog loads of loving attention. We love nothing more than having a happy dog relaxing or snoozing by our side while we work at a desk, eat meals, or relax in the living room.
Supervision and safety
-- Your dog will be supervised at all times. Generally someone is home the whole time, and we don't accept bookings for times when we know we'll be out a lot more than usual.
-- If your dog is staying for the first time, we'll only accept the booking if we know we won't need to leave them alone at all.
-- For repeat bookings only, if we and you are confident that your dog will be fine alone for short times, we may by agreement leave them occasionally for short times: max. 2 hours, but not day after day. (Typically this will be in their crate indoors, so that they can't get into mischief or come to any harm. And they will always have had a good walk and ample opportunty to toilet beforehand!)
-- We have a fully fenced, secure garden in a very quiet neighbourhood, with ample clear, grassed area.
-- We walk daily between about 6.00am and 7.00am on local trails and quiet, leafy streets. Morning walks are usually at least an hour (around 4 to 8 km) but this can be adjusted depending on your dog's age, fitness and exercise needs. For example, we can do one long walk in the early morning, or two shorter walks early and late in the day, as well as play sessions in the back garden.
Living and sleeping
-- Your dog will be inside as much as they want to, in a well ventilated and comfortably heated/cooled house. They'll be welcome to follow us from room to room throughout the day, or have quiet time in a comfy spot while we go about our day.
-- Naturally, they'll have ready access to drinking water at all times, indoors and outdoors.
-- Your dog will sleep inside - where else?! 😏 We prefer that they sleep in their own bed or crate (open or closed). This can be in the living room, or in our bedroom if they sleep better with humans nearby. We'll discuss with you in advance what's most suitable so that your dog is relaxed.
-- We don't offer training or formal activities, but will spend play sessions in the garden with your dog a few times a day. (Did someone say "ball"?🙂)
Food, Health and Wellbeing
-- We're happy to maintain your dog's usual diet and eating routine (one or more meals a day). We ask that you supply their own dry food. We're happy to add some bits of fresh food - tell us what they like: e.g. veggies, fruit, yoghurt, egg, rice? We ourselves aren't meat-eaters, but if you'd like to supply packed portions of mince or whatever, we can add that to their meal.
-- We don't offer grooming or dog-washing, but will help your dog stay nice and clean with a good rub down if there's dirty weather so that they come back to you in good shape.
-- We're happy to administer oral medications your dog may be on (but not injections - sorry, we have no experience of doing that).
-- We accept vaccinated dogs only. Thank you!
