Ive had dogs in my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Melbourne, where my family lived above my dad's chemist shop, and our dachshund was a very special part of my childhood. From a young age I was responsible for feeding him, so caring for dogs has always felt natural to me. 

After moving to Darwin in 1970, we had Snoopy, a much loved Labrador/Doberman cross. Over the years I've had seven dachshunds, as well as three staffies. I currently have Rocky, my three year old dachshund, who would love some company around the house.Since recently retiring from a career in education, I'm now home a lot, and would enjoy having other dogs to spoil and care for. 

Your dog would be treated as part of our family and given plenty of love, attention and care while you're away. The morning routine includes feeding and petting Rocky, who gets a breakfast of kibble. If your dog prefers something different, I'm happy to stick to their routine.
I would take the dogs outside to play with a ball or toy, and practice sitting and staying Or any other commands they're learning. If they like swimming, they might have a dip in the pool with me. Then when they're tired, and dried off they can have a rest in the aircon. 

Please note- We have a fully fenced back yard with a pool. As the pool area isn't separately fenced, I'm very careful about supervision and dogs would only be outside when I'm with them.
Rocky lets me know when he wants to go outside, and he uses the pet door. Your dog would be encouraged to do the same. If I need to go out for a short time, I would put them all inside. Any medicines that need to be administered, I would follow the vets instructions. I usually wrap a tablet in a piece of ham and it goes down pretty quick!
