Top cities for house sitting in Australia

Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Cairns QLD home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Cairns QLD.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Cairns QLD home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi! My name is Danna. I truly love animals and deeply care about their wellbeing. I’ve always been passionate about studying veterinary medicine, and I pay close attention to their health, nutrition, and daily activity.

I understand that every dog is different, and I’m fully willing to adapt to their needs, routines, and personality to make sure both you and your pet feel comfortable and safe. I have a calm and patient approach, and I genuinely enjoy spending quality time with animals, whether that means playing, walking, or simply keeping them company.

I also understand that leaving a family member with someone else can be stressful, so I’ll always keep you updated and follow your instructions carefully. My goal is to create a safe, loving, and stress-free environment where your pet feels happy and cared for at all times.
I would love the opportunity to take care of your pet and ensure they feel safe while you are away

Hi, I'm a devoted pet lover originally from Shanghai, now living in beautiful Cairns. Back home, I have my own dog and cat – they are not just pets to me, but friends, children, and true family members. Being away from them has only deepened my understanding of how much trust and love a pet owner places in a sitter. That’s why I’m so motivated to care for other people’s pets as if they were my own.

I have years of hands-on experience looking after dogs and cats, from daily feeding, walking, and playtime to administering medications and providing gentle comfort when they feel anxious or unwell. My own pets have taught me patience, attentiveness, and the importance of maintaining routines so animals feel safe and happy.

Here’s what a typical day looks like when your pet stays with me:
Morning: fresh food and water, followed by a 20–30 minute walk for dogs or play session for cats. Midday: quiet time at home – if I need to step out briefly (never more than 2–3 hours), your pet will have toys and a cosy space. Afternoon: another walk or interactive play, plus cuddles and brushing if they enjoy it. Evening: dinner, a final toilet break, and settling down together – I always let pets sleep indoors in a safe, comfortable spot. I work from home most days, so your furry family member will rarely be alone.

For the safety of everyone, I only accept fully vaccinated pets into my home. You can leave your beloved companion with complete peace of mind – I will treat them with the same warmth and dedication I give my own. I can’t wait to meet your furry family member and give them a wonderful, love-filled stay.

I'm a trustworthy sitter based in Manunda, Cairns looking to walk and sit your furry friends. I really love dogs but do not have any of my own, so it's a real joy to be able to walk and look awesome pooches. I have been house sitting some gorgeous doggies for the last month and am able to provide great references from the UK and Australia demonstrating over 10 years of experience. I've also got an Aussie housesitter account with a few reviews there if you need!
I have looked after dogs, cats, birds, chickens, rabbits, Guinea pigs and snakes so have a wide range of experience. I am ideally looking for consistent dog walking gigs that fit around part time working from home job. If you do need a sitter to come to your house and be with your dog in the week, I can do this as I work remotely as long as you have an internet connection.
Do reach out with any questions or requests for references, looking forward to seeing your furry friends soon.

Hi, I’m Karen!
I’m a French/Canadian currently exploring Australia on a Working Holiday Visa.

Animals have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve spent several years pet sitting for family, friends, and neighbours. Whether it was caring for pets in my own home or staying at someone else’s place, I’ve always made sure every furry friend felt safe, comfortable, and loved.

Since moving abroad, I’ve had to leave my own cat behind in France, I miss her every day, so spending time with animals here really brings me joy. It’s honestly one of the best parts of my Australian adventure.

I’m caring, reliable, and attentive, and I love giving pets all the affection, playtime, and walks they need to feel happy and relaxed. Energetic dog? Cuddly cat? I’m all in!

Can’t wait to meet your little companion soon!

Hello furry babies and devoted owners, my name is Marcello I've had cats and dogs for as long as I can remember, so I know just how much love, care, and attention they need. I don't have professional pet care experience, but I've spent my whole life looking after my own pets, and I'm happiest when I'm surrounded by furry friends. If I could, I'd happily spend the whole day cuddling them!My visits start from 1.5 hours, so your pet gets plenty of time for company and attention—not just a quick check-in. Whether they enjoy long walks, a run in the park, playtime, or simply curling up for a cuddle, I'm happy to adapt to their personality and routine.I understand that every pet is different. Some are playful from the first minute, while others need a little more time to feel comfortable around someone new. I'm always patient, calm, and happy to let them set the pace so they can build trust and feel safe with me.I also love bringing out the playful side of pets, especially cats! Whether it's chasing a feather wand, playing with their favourite toy, or simply keeping them entertained, I always enjoy spending quality time with them. When meeting a new cat, I let them approach me in their own time and earn their trust naturally. If they enjoy being petted, I'll start with gentle strokes in the areas where most cats feel comfortable, avoiding more sensitive spots until they show me they're relaxed and happy. I believe every pet deserves to feel respected, safe, and understood.I can also help with grooming if needed, but I'd always prefer to become their friend first so they feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the process.Your pet's safety and wellbeing will always be my priority. I'll keep you updated with photos and messages during every visit, and if anything unexpected happens, I'll stay calm, contact you straight away, and follow your instructions while making sure your pet is cared for.I'll look after your pets with the same love and attention I give my own, making sure they feel happy, safe, and loved while you're away. I'm available seven days a week and happy to work around your schedule. ️

Hello and welcome to my profile!
My name is Gwladys, and I’m a passionate animal lover with several years of experience as a pet sitter and dog walker. Having grown up around animals, I am comfortable and confident with dogs, cats, and other pets. I understand the unique needs of each animal and ensure they receive the care and attention they deserve, following their routines and preferences.

Here’s what I offer for your pets:

	•	Care and Companionship: If your pet has specific needs like taking medication or requires extra care, I’m happy to assist with that in a gentle and attentive manner.

I always make sure to respect your pet’s habits to ensure their stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, while providing a calm and reassuring environment. My goal is to ensure both you and your pet are completely satisfied with my services.
