My wife Maureen and I are both retired and have a 5 year old fur baby called Monty, a Maltese Shih Tzu, who we adopted when he was 12 months old.

We live on 1.5 acres in Lockwood, right on the Calder Alternate Highway We are only a 12 minute drive to Kangaroo Flat and 20 minutes from the centre of Bendigo and are ideally placed for those travelling from further North on the Calder to Melbourne to access ,as family and friends in the Mildura and Sealake area, have made use of quite often. We are also quite willing to pick up or drop off if you prefer.

Maureen and I both love dogs and have had dogs for most of our lives except for a 10 year period when we were “Grey Nomads” travelling Australia In our fifth wheeler. During this time we still got our “dog fix” by house and dog sitting on several occasions.

We know how important it is to be able to leave Monty secure in the knowledge that he will be loved and looked after. Through Paw Shake we found a lovely couple Evelyn and Peter who do just that and have decided this is something productive and enjoyable we can do in our retirement.

Our medium sized back yard is very secure plus we have a dog door. Any doggie guests we have will of course live and sleep inside and it goes without saying will get plenty of love and cuddles and will not be left alone while they are in our care. We also have secure dog straps for a dogs harness in the back seat of our car if we are transporting them anywhere.

Monty has no problems with other dogs being here. He will play with those who want to play or not bother those who don’t . He is quite an amendable little boy. However he is not comfortable with large dogs so we have to keep our doggie guests to small size and of course no fighting dog breeds.

We usually take Monty on a lead for a walk morning and evening mostly on our own land, along the bordering creek or occasionally for a bit of variety to the nearby oval or into the walking track in Kangaroo Flat.

We are both quite adept at administering oral medicines and being former teachers have had police checks. We can also supply references from people whose pets we have cared for.

We do need to see proof of your pets vaccination and unfortunately ,as we are in a rural area, are unable to take female dogs who are not spayed.
