About Roy

Update 16th March: The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is now hitting Australia and more people are now expected to need to self isolate or in the worse case, will need a stay in a hospital for many weeks. This will be a problem for those who have pets at home that need feeding and walking. I will be working throughout whatever is heading our way over the coming months as I have regular customers that rely on me every day. With that in mind, I have activated a service that will allow me to look after animals daily for my customers while at the same time keep me protected from COVID-19. If you are affected by COVD-19 and need a petsitter or dog walker daily, please contact me so we can discuss the best way for me to look after your pets during this time. Many people have contacted me to walk their dogs as they are scared to leave the house these days which is understandable.

As a note of caution for dog walkers.... If you own a dog and are taking it for walks, please try to keep separation from other people where possible. Richard Wilkins from Channel 9 has been diagnosed with the disease yet has no symptoms yet. People need to keep this in mind while walking their dogs and wash their hands as soon as they finish the dog walk.

In late December last year, we had a number of days in Sydney where the air temperature was 30 degrees by 10 am, which means the concrete and asphalt that dogs walk-on would be 35 to 40 degrees. This is too hot for walking dogs as they can get heatstroke or serious burns to their paws. By midday, the temperatures were even higher. Unfortunately despite doing the right thing by her dog, I have been given my first negative review by a customer for not walking her dog on 4 of those hot days late December while she was overseas. During the Christmas period my phone kept on overheating as well and I could not send my customer pictures every day. Unfortunately, this customer assumed no pictures meant I didn't walk her dog. The customer was fully refunded for the days that I did not walk her dog due to high temperatures and I am disappointed that she decided to give me a negative review for doing the right thing by her dog.

I hope the rest of my reviews will prove that my number one priority is the care of animals I am looking after.

Who am I? As an ABN registered business I provide a 24 hour professional and reliable pet care service and have looked after pets over the last 6 years with each visit being at least one hour. I do not believe 40 minutes is enough time with your loved ones. With a 24 hour service, I often take calls in the early hours of the morning (eg 2am) to help pet owners who have an emergency or need someone to look after their pets urgently.

I have experience looking after pets that have health issues such as suffering from diabetes and each visit I do a quick health check on the pets to make sure they are not stressed or otherwise unwell. I am trained in giving injections and providing medication as needed.

I send pictures of the pets to the owners daily or as required as well as cleaning litter boxes, watering plants, checking the mailbox and checking the home is secure each day.

Before walking dogs, I check that the pavement and asphalt are not too hot for the dogs to walk on. Injuries received by dogs walking on hot surfaces are avoided by canceling the walk and notifying the customer. I make sure the dogs never step on glass, eat food left on the street or do anything which may harm them or make them sick. Dogs are always on leash unless we are at a fenced-in dog park and the owner is happy for the dog to be off-leash.

I always check with the customer first before giving the dog treats. Some dogs have allergies or are limited by vets to what they should eat so I always check with the owner first.

Roy was great and very flexible. Gus (puppy) really enjoyed spending time with him!

Dog Walking

Roy is excellent with our two dogs. We employed him as we were under isolation for 2 weeks. he came when he said he was coming and the dogs were very happy after their walks. he must have walked them quickly as they were panting when they got back which is an excellent sign to them having been exercised. he knows about dogs and one day it was drizzling so he rang to see if the dogs minded the rain ( which they don't) so he came as planned. If I need a dog walker in the future we will definitely use him again. I would recommend him to anyone who really cares about the welfare of their animals.

I haven't ever used Pawshake nor did I know Roy. I read the one poor review and Roys response, I thought I would give him a go and I am not sorry as he puts the welfare of the dogs first ( too hot or raining for them to walk etc) I think the review was unfair. Thanks Roy, Sami and Archie will miss you.
